01 / Challenge

On a vessel and a terminal, office IT and operational OT systems run side by side, the link to shore is a satellite, and the equipment never stops.

On top of that come NIS2 and classification society requirements. Security and visibility had to improve without stopping operations.

Inventory first: what exists, who uses it and what talks to what. Without an IT and OT asset inventory every measure is a guess.

Then in order of risk: separate the networks, control traffic on the satellite link, add monitoring, and only then automate.

NIS2 and segmentation
Remediation of identified NIS2 gaps and separation of IT and OT networks into zones with controlled crossings.

Satellite link
Bandwidth usage analysis and traffic rules, so business and safety traffic always comes first.

Monitoring and reports
Buoy and sensor monitoring with Power BI reporting and automated alerts when a value leaves its limits.

Everyday IT
An on-premises Proxmox server with a Windows domain, and IT ticketing on SharePoint and Power Automate.
